Arminera 2023 closed its doors after three days of great attendance and with a wide schedule of activities

31 May 2023

The last day of the leading international mining exhibition in Argentina was attended by the Minister of Economy of the Nation, Sergio Massa, who toured the exhibition.

Arminera 2023 celebrated its 25th anniversary at La Rural Trade Center. Organized by the Argentine Chamber of Mining Companies (CAEM) and Messe Frankfurt Argentina. It was attended by more than 12,000 visitors, with an area of 15,000 square meters, more than 280 exhibiting companies, 7 country delegations and the support of more than 40 sponsors.

Among the political references were the governor of Río Negro, Arabela Carreras; the governor of Santa Cruz, Alicia Kirchner; the governor of Catamarca, Raúl Jalil; the governor of Jujuy, Gerardo Morales; the governor of La Rioja, Ricardo Quintela and the governor of Salta, Gustavo Sáenz, among other leaders of these provinces. There was also a strong presence of authorities from the provinces of San Juan, Santa Fe and Buenos Aires.

As for countries, there were present: Germany, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Italy, Israel, the Netherlands, Panama, Peru, Poland and Switzerland.

In this regard, the President of CAEM, Franco Mignacco, highlighted: “Following the moment of growth that the industry is experiencing, we have had a great Arminera, both in terms of the number of visitors and the quality of its offer. It really proved to be the key meeting point for the sector and it has been able to reflect the dynamism of Argentine mining in the level of its exhibitors and in its variety of talks and conferences. It also managed to capture the multiplicity of aspects of the industry (productive, economic, political, social, educational, sustainable, communicational, etc.) and have representation from all the players: mining companies, suppliers, unions, the national State, the provinces and official organizations, among the main ones. It has left us with a very positive balance and high expectations regarding joint work to continue consolidating the Argentine mining industry.

On his part, the President and CEO of Messe Frankfurt Argentina, Fernando Gorbarán, expressed: “For three days, the panorama of the local and international mining industry was experienced, which invites us to continue trusting on the growth and improvement of the sector. Our work plan that we began in 2017 to position the event nationally and internationally paid off. The idea was to build networks with companies and position the mining sector. To bring Arminera to the world and get the world to come to the show. Today this is a reality: the world is in Arminera”.

A schedule full of activities

In parallel to the exhibition, different activities were carried out where the latest developments with detailed and accurate information on the sector were announced, in addition to giving the possibility of training and networking.

The agenda of activities began on Monday morning with the Raw Materials Convention between the EU and LATAM "Promoting investments in sustainable value chains of raw materials between the European Union and Latin America." The event was funded by the European Union within the framework of its EU-Latin America Partnership on Raw Material project and aimed to promote and intensify cooperation between the European Union and seven Latin American partner countries along value chains of mineral-based industries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay.

Meanwhile, CAEM and IDEA organized the meeting of CEOs "The opportunity and challenges of the mining industry in Argentina", where the first-hand view of the sector’s leaders was shared. In order to identify business opportunities for their companies, the opportunities and challenges of the mining industry and its value chain were addressed.

On its part, CADIM (Argentine College of Mining Engineers) organized the seminar "The Role of Mining Engineering in Argentine Mining Development", which sought to promote the efficiency of the industry, focusing on the role of engineering.

The Israel Conferences event was also held, where the state of the Israeli mining sector and its global vision were discussed. There, the diplomatic corps of Israel in the Argentine Republic gave a talk "Israel: 75 years of life, entrepreneurship and technological innovation", on the new technologies applicable in the world mining sector and their potential for mining projects in the Argentine Republic.

Australia was the guest country with 12 companies present in its pavilion and developed a Seminar where different conferences were offered that covered three main axes: mining projects in Argentina; Australian innovation applied to the mining sector; and sustainable mining and social license.

Meanwhile, the Secretariat of Mining carried out: "Mining in Argentina: a commitment to integral development", with the aim of promoting public-private investment in the mining industry.

With the focus on gender issues, different activities were carried out on the role of women in mining. Within this framework, ODS No. 5 of the 2023 agenda was addressed, which proposes achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls.

The ICMA, the first Argentine Mining Cost Index, prepared by CAEM together with Abeceb, was also presented, a development that will allow us to know how the main costs (such as salaries, energy, fuel, logistics, etc.) measured in dollars evolve.

The matchmaking programs were protagonists

The 3rd Local Supplier Development Meeting had more than 1800 meetings. 100 buyers from the mining provinces of our country traveled from 39 deposits to meet with the exhibitors.
